SANUR – Bali, Indonesia – December 25, 2024: Sudakara ArtSpace is proud to present “Bridges of Light,” an extraordinary art exhibition featuring the profound and intuitive works of renowned artist Susiawan. This exhibition celebrates more than four decades of creative exploration, encompassing the artist’s passion for intuitive painting, shadow play, and alternative arts-based education. The exhibition will be available from December 27, 2024 – February 5, 2025.
A native of Solo, Central Java, Susiawan has spent his life blending art with education, particularly in fostering creativity in children, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. His works are a manifestation of this mission, embodying an intimate connection between art, culture, and the environment.
Rooted in the spiritual traditions of Nusantara, particularly Javanese and Balinese cultures, “Bridges of Light” explores the artist’s understanding of the “Kanda Pat” — the four spiritual siblings who guide and protect us from birth to death. Through his intuitive paintings, Susiawan channels the powerful energies of this ancient concept, creating a collection of visual records that reflect the deeply spiritual and interconnected nature of human existence.
The exhibition also highlights Susiawan’s deep engagement with the traditional art of shadow puppetry. A revered medium across communities, cultures, and continents, shadow puppetry allows light and shadow to merge in storytelling that brings forth wisdom, teaching, and reflection. This communal art form serves as a reminder that, even in times of hardship, the light of hope endures, guiding us through darkness and towards transformation.
As visitors engage with the art, they are invited to reflect not just as passive observers, but as active participants in the narrative of light, shadow, and collective experience. The artworks serve as a bridge, connecting not only diverse cultures and communities but also the physical and spiritual realms, offering hope and transformation in these uncertain times.
Susiawan’s work is a true celebration of the enduring power of art to unite, heal, and inspire. This exhibition promises to be a transformative experience that encourages dialogue, creativity, and reflection, inviting viewers to discover their own inner light.
